xx Sustainability in the Home
« Thread started on: Nov 15th, 2004, 10:38am »

At our recent fall retreat, Olin Ivy led a discussion on "Sustainability in the Home". The groundwork for the discussion focused on St. Francis of Assissi and his service to others. According to Olin, St. Francis had reached a point in his journey where he realized that he needed to become one with God's creation. This applies to us today, in that our short range and long range decisions need to be from the frame of reference of our trying to be one with God's creation.

Sandy Kurtz, of Global Plan For Action (http://globalactionplan.org), and Trish King of Sequatchie Valley Institute (http://svionline.org) shared their experiences regarding sustainability in their organizations and their lives.

The discussion progressed to sharing the things that we are doing or can do.

This includes

composting vegetable matter and yard clippings

building brush piles so small critters can escape predation

using home made cleansers

re-use materials from older structures when building

Please reply to this thread with your ideas and experiences for what we can do as individuals to promote sustainable life styles.
